of Mennonite Church Canada
Why meet?
Hugo Neufeld's "Diversity Project" report inspired the idea to gather
leaders from multi-cultural and host congregations to work at common objectives
and celebrate God at work in our congregations. (Hugo Neufeld is the pastor at
Trinity Mennonite Church, Calgary, AB.)
What will we do?
- discern the multi-cultural setting in Mennonite Church Canada
- cultivate genuine, dynamic partnership between multi-cultural and host congregations,
where all voices are heard and represented
- identify the problems, concerns, and challenges facing multi-cultural congregations
- celebrate our cultural diversity and move toward mature church relationships
- experience and promote multi-cultural worship and fellowship
- raise the profile of our multi-cultural congregations
- resource, equip and empower multi-cultural ministries
- promote minority/majority partnerships for church planting/development, evangelism
and growth
- foster representation of cultural diversity in conference committees and
staff
Why July 7, 2002?
By taking advantage of the Annual Assembly in Saskatoon (July 3-7), we hope
to gather as many ethnic and host congregation leaders as possible, for a meeting
of minds and some brainstorming sessions.
Who is invited?
Representatives from:
- host congregations (congregations who have exercised openness to multi-cultural
or cross-cultural ministry);
- congregations representing cultures and ethnic backgrounds newer to
the Mennonite Church
- Mennonite Church Canada Witness
- Mennonite Church Canada Formation
- Area Conferences, and
- other interested persons
