Dear Editor.

October 8, 2002

Winnipeg, Man.—As a Mennonite and a child of God, I strive to “get it right” in a world that seems has largely “got it wrong.”

Much of the time in this complex world, it’s hard to know if and when I’m “getting it right”, and too often it feels as though I am “getting it wrong”.

Recently though, I received encouragement from a complete stranger. In fact, all of us in Mennonite Church Canada received encouragement from this stranger, because she chose to convey her comments via the MC Canada web site. Here is what she wrote:

Dear Mennonite Church Canada,

I have always been interested in the Mennonite Church and have just had a look through your web site. Thank you so much for letting us have a glimpse into your prayers and beliefs, especially those of your fellowship after September the 11th. If the whole world could have heard what the Mennonite Church Canada had to say in Fellowship and Prayer after Sept 11th 2001, perhaps the Leaders of our Countries would have reacted differently. I too, have to admit that I was also guilty of thought of retaliation and anger. Now you have reminded me of what Jesus Christ would have done and how we as Followers of Christ should have acted.

Thank you so much for your time and please pray for those of us that have a guilty heart. You are a Wonderful People. May God Bless You All.

Yours in Christ,

Debbie also included her family name and address (withheld here). Thank-you, Debbie, for your honesty, and for sharing this note with all of Mennonite Church Canada.
