Day of Action and Prayer for Colombia

Winnipeg, Man. - Evangelical church leaders in Colombia, including representatives of the Colombian Mennonite Church, have banded together to request wider church support for a Day of Action and Prayer for Colombia on May 21.

A specific request seeking participation from Mennonite Church Canada congregations came from Rebecca Bartel, a Mennonite Church Canada Witness worker in Colombia.

The Day of Action and Prayer for Colombia grew out of the Summit of the Evangelical Christian Church for the Peace of Colombia (Feb. 13 - 17) - an event that saw evangelical church leaders from across Colombia develop a united statement at the request of the Colombian government. Mennonite Church Canada representatives Jack Suderman, general secretary, and Janet Plenert, Executive Secretary of Christian Witness, presented a paper at the summit at the request of Colombian church leaders. The document, entitled "The Church in Search of Relevance" is available at http://www.mennonitechurch.ca/news/releases/2006/02/Release14.htm.

A collection of worship, prayer, and sermon resources from the Colombian church is below and also at www.peaceincolombia.org for congregations who wish to participate in the Day of Action and Prayer for Colombia.
