Winnipeg, Man. — Dave Klassen, of Waterloo North Mennonite Church, has been named Mennonite Church Canada’s Eastern Director, Resource Development.

Klassen brings extensive Africa experience and perspective to his new role of inspiring generous hearts on behalf of the church.

Born to missionary parents in Congo, Klassen grew up in Africa and North America, later working extensive terms with Mennonite Brethren missions and Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in Congo, Nigeria, and Uganda., and a shorter term in Rwanda. He has extensive speaking experience, having traveled across Canada as Global Educator of MCC Ontario. He currently serves as chair of the missions committee at his church.

Klassen is no stranger to physical labour having worked extensively in construction – experience that led to his developing several buildings as part of a medical complex in Congo. He has a degree in International Development, as well as a year of engineering studies.

In naming his goals for the coming year, Klassen reflected that “It will be hard to fit such exciting work into a quarter time position.

“I believe in what God is doing around the world, and I believe that the main tool God uses is the church. This is the church doing it, and it’s really neat being a part of this.”

Al Rempel, Director of Resource Development for MC Canada added, “We are excited about the contribution Dave will make to our growing vision for ministry.”

Klassen is married to Mary Lou, and has three adult daughters, Aleda, Kara, and Hannah.
