October 2, 2006

Elkhart, Ind. (AMBS) – Jonathan Neufeld of Winnipeg, Man., has been appointed admissions counselor in Canada for Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary.

In this one-quarter time position, Neufeld will establish and maintain contacts with prospective students as well as with pastors and church leaders across Mennonite Church Canada. He will help prospective students assess the fit between AMBS’s mission and programs and their own personal and vocational goals and faith commitments, and he will assist prospective and transfer student in planning courses of study.

“Serving in this position with AMBS is to join the denomination in the sacred work of discerning and calling leaders for ministry in the church,” Neufeld says. “I view this work of discernment as holy ground, and I look forward to coming alongside people who are considering ministry studies and joining the other voices who are participating in their discernment.”

Neufeld earned a Master of Divinity degree, with a focus on pastoral ministry, from AMBS in 2005. In the past year he has served as interim Constituency Relations Coordinator for Canadian Mennonite University. In summer 2005 and summer 2006, he was an event pastor for AMBS’s program, !Explore: A Theological Program for High School Youth, a position in which each summer he mentored a group of 15 youth during the three-week intensive part of their experience. Neufeld also has served as a pastor, including three years with Southside Fellowship in Elkhart while studying at AMBS, and seven years as associate pastor of Bethel Mennonite in Winnipeg.

Regina Shands Stoltzfus, AMBS director of admissions, said, “It is important for someone in this position to be part of and to understand Mennonite Church Canada and also to really understand AMBS. Jonathan does both very well. Many in the Canadian church already understand that AMBS is their seminary, and Jonathan’s work will build on and enhance that connection.”
