New edition of “Simply in Season” released

Harrisonburg, Va. and Waterloo, Ont.— Non-Mennonites and Mennonites alike are buying more locally produced foods that are in season and eating more healthily, thanks in part to a cookbook first published in 2005.

Simply in Season has already sold more than 120,000 copies. It was written by Mary Beth Lind of West Virginia and Cathleen Hockman-Wert of Oregon.

This fall the book was updated for the third time, incorporating new statistics, notes, and sources.

Food consumption and lifestyles are constantly in flux. “A contemporary, progressive cookbook like this needs to be kept up to date,” said Josh Byler, assistant editorial manager at MennoMedia, the publisher of the book.

Simply in Season, part of the World Community Cookbook series, is published in cooperation with Mennonite Central Committee, a worldwide ministry of relief, development, and peace.

The cookbook’s authors believe that their recipes, stories, and information promote good eating and healthier lifestyles while respecting local and global food producers, and the environment.

The new edition of Simply in Season is available from Herald Press by calling 800-245-7894 (U.S.) or 800-631-6535 (Canada). The prices are the same as the previous edition: Paperback—$22.99 in Canada and $19.99 in U.S.; hardcover/spiral—$28.99 in Canada and $24.99 in U.S.
