Habitat for Humanity CEO featured on Shaping Families

WATERLOO, Ont. and HARRISONBURG, Va.— Jonathan Reckford, CEO of the international Habitat for Humanity organization since 2006, will speak on the Shaping Families 15-minute weekly radio program in July. Erin Ranck, head of Habitat for Humanity, Los Angeles, California, is also a guest on the July 14, 2012 program, telling how important housing is in addressing the welfare of families and their communities.

Ron Goertzen of Henderson, Nebraska, a volunteer with the PAX service program in the 60s in Congo, Africa, shares on Shaping Families the weekend of July 28. Goertzen reflects on how important PAX was in shaping his life and the lives of his family in a program titled “Service that Changes Lives” Reckford, Ranck, and Goertzen appeared earlier in documentaries produced by MennoMedia.

Other programs for July include:

  • July 7: “Re-entry after Prison” Ellen, a woman struggling with re-entry issues after being incarcerated, talks about housing, raising her son, and difficulty finding a job. This episode won a Certificate of Merit from the Religion Communications Council earlier this year, after airing initially in 2011. Ellen worked for the Our Place D.C. transitional agency in Washington, D.C., helping women find their way after spending time in prison.
  • July 21: “Family Stories and Memories” Ervin Stutzman, executive director of Mennonite Church USA and author of two books telling the stories of his Amish parents, Tobias of the Amish and Emma: A Widow Among the Amish (Herald Press), reflects on how writing those books changed his life. The books are now also in audio book format available on CD and downloadable.
