New titles added to Bible study and devotional series

Mennonite Church Canada/MennoMedia joint release
August 24, 2012

Harrisonburg, Va., and Waterloo, Ont. — Each fall, many congregations seek new materials to recommend for adult Bible study groups and Christian education classes. Two new studies from MennoMedia in the With the Word series—on Matthew and Isaiah—offer fresh options. With the Word provides focused study on individual books of the Bible, with accompanying devotions on the same text and theme.

“This is a new approach, which allows groups or individuals to combine Bible study and devotional reading,” says Amy Gingerich, director of print media for MennoMedia. “We began With the Word in response to customer requests for that option, along with requests for study resources on a specific book of the Bible.”

Each With the Word study includes eight to ten short study sessions, followed by seven brief devotionals on the same theme. Optional leader suggestions are included, making the studies suitable for groups or individuals. As of August 2012, the series has a total of four studies available—on Psalms, Luke, Matthew, and Isaiah.

“The studies have been successful with our Sunday evening Bible study group,” says Pearl Zehr, of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, New Castle, Pennsylvania. “We like to share the leadership, and the format works well for that. We had good participation.”

Recent college graduate Evan McCarthy sees potential in the studies for young adults. “They’re very easy to read and don’t take a lot of advance preparation, and college or young adult groups are often looking for something to try,” says McCarthy, sales and inventory manager with MennoMedia.
