Mennonite Church Canada hires new director of communications

Dan Dyck

Winnipeg, Man.—Dan Dyck has been hired as the new Director of Communications for Mennonite Church Canada. He brings nine years experience in corporate communications at Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute (PAMI) in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where he was responsible for writing, design, web site construction, technical illustration and photography.

At Mennonite Church Canada, Dyck will be responsible for developing an over-all communications plan and strategy, overseeing the publication of resources, producing communication materials, enhancing electronic communications, and advising other staff in the area of communications.

"Dan knows how to communicate with farmers and business people, engineers and politicians. He has a wealth of technical skills in the field and is eager to apply his gifts to the church. He can help us to get out the message, not only of the exciting programs of Mennonite Church Canada, but also, more importantly, the message of the Gospel," said Dan Nighswander, Mennonite Church Canada general secretary.

The General Board of Mennonite Church Canada agreed to hire Dyck at their meetings held March 2-4.

"I look forward to the strategy and planning aspects of the job. There are some significant and new challenges that come with the transformation of Mennonite Church Canada," said Dyck.

He has had articles published in a variety of farm publications, community newspapers, and trade magazines. He has created and maintained corporate websites and served as an editor of a staff newsletter. Dyck holds a certificate in communications (public relations specialty) from the University of Winnipeg, and has received certificates in audio-visual media production, and architectural and electrical drafting from Red River College.

Dyck will begin his new work on April 17, replacing Aiden Schlichting Enns.

Dan is a member of Portage Mennonite Church in Portage la Prairie where he serves as worship leader and musician. He is married to Laura Dyck. They have two daughters ages 3 years and 8 months.
