Historical note

Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church originated through outreach by First Mennonite Church (Saskatoon). It began as a Sunday school to children in the area and was originally known as Pleasant Hill Mennonite Mission. Benno Toews, a university student and mission worker is considered the founding leader of the group. Services began in 1928. The first owned meeting place was dedicated in 1953. The group became an independent congregation in 1958 with 21 charter members. There were building programs in 1962 and 1980. The membership was 68 in 1962, 113 in 1974, 147 in 1980, 70 in 1994 and 82 in 2000. The leaders of the congregation were: Benno Toews (1928-1930), J.J. Thiessen (1930-), Isaac Ens (1953-1954), Otto Driedger (1955-1956), Peter Reimer (1957-1958), B.H. Fast (1958-1966), Carl Ens (1966-1969), David Letkeman (1969-1974), Peter Funk (1975-1985, 1987-1988), Greg Goertzen (1986), David Peters (1989-2000).

Scope and content note

The fonds contains bulletins (1963-1999), newsletters (1975-1989), annual reports (1964-1991), directories (1963-1994), correspondence (1961-1970), and a brief congregational history (1969). The records document the activities and development of this congregation.
