The
cave is located on the western slopes of the Allmen Mountain near
the town of Baretswil about
thirty kilometres east
southeast of Zurich.
According to tradition the cave served as a
secret meeting place for the Anabaptists in the neighboring villages,
and as a
hideout during times of violent persecution. The cave is now a local
tourist
attraction.
