    Historical note

The Bergfeld Mennonite Church in Manitoba traces its beginning to services which began in 1936. More formal organization occurred in 1937, the year that the newly organized Rudnerweide Mennoniten Gemeinde, a split from the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, decided to build its first church building the Thames school district south of Plum Coulee, in the extinct village of Bergfeld. In 1959 the name was changed from Rudnerweider to the Evangelical Mennonite Mission Conference (EMMC). Rev. Cornelius G. Stoesz is considered the founding resident leader of the Bergfeld EMMC group. In 2002 the congregation had 70 members and the pastor was Eric Lee
