Historical note

Abram Warkentin was a minister and farmer. He was born in the village of Gruenfeld, Southern Russia on August 15, 1904 to Rev. Aron and Maria (nee Huebert) Warkentin. One of a family of 12 children he attended elementary school and junior high in Gruenfeld. In 1924 Warkentin was baptized by Aeltester Jacob Rempel. Two years later he married Anna Klassen on November 25, 1926. Their marriage produced one daughter, Alice. Warkentin was ordained to the ministry on February 13, 1929 in the Gruenfeld Mennonite Church by Aeltester Jakob Rempel. The next year he and his family immigrated to Canada. In Canada he began farming near Dominion City and served in the church first in Ste. Elizabeth and later at the Arnaud Mennonite Church. Although Warkentin later moved to Morris and then to Winnipeg he continued to serve the Arnaud Church when ever possible until his death on November 19, 1965.

Scope and content note

This fonds contains one sermon based on Ephesians 3:19. It also contains a letter from Warkentin's daughter.
