Isaak A. Warkentin, minister and farmer, was born on December 5, 1890 to Rev. Aron and Maria (nee Huebert) Warkentin in the village of Gruenfeld, Southern Russia. It was there that he received his education. As a young man Warkentin served in the forestry and on May 26,1918 with the end of WWI he married Katarina Wiebe. Their marriage produced one son and one daughter. Warkentin was called to the ministry and ordained on November 28, 1926 by Aeltester Jakob Rempel. In 1930 he and his family immigrated to Canada where they lived for 5 years near Starbuck, Manitoba. In 1935 they purchased a farm near Steinbach and Warkentin became instrumental in organizing Steinbach Mennonite Church. Warkentin was forced to sell his farm in 1952 due to ill health but continued to remain active in ministry until his death in 1964.
This fonds contains a short note from Warkentin's daughter and a short biography of his life. It also includes 2 sermons. One is based on Matthew 7:13-14. The second is based on Ephesians 3:13-21.
