In God’s Image is both a book and a globally touring exhibition. In God’s Image originated and is based in Winnipeg at the Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery. The project features art, daily life photographs and stories from the lives of ordinary Anabaptists from Canada, the US, Cuba, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, India, Indonesia, Taiwan and Japan. The acclaimed coffee table book was published in November 2003. An exhibition -- with approximately 100 works of art, 34 full colour photo collage panels and story panels from each of the participating countries – began touring in July 2003 at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo before going to the assembly of Mennonite World Conference, also in Bulawayo, in August 2003. In 2004 it has toured in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. It returns to its base in Winnipeg in March 2005 and will go to Charlotte, North Carolina in July.

In God’s Image is a unique snapshot of the Anabaptist family of faith as it exists early in the new millennium. Curator Ray Dirks traveled to each country and stayed with ordinary church member families whenever possible. He learned about their lives, culture and church, photographed them and wrote stories of love, loss, faith and family -- human interest stories that cross cultures, helping us to identify with and get to know brothers and sisters around the world. Dirks also met with and commissioned artists in each country. As a result an exhibition of fine art, daily life photographs and stories from life’s everyday experiences emerged.
