Why do artists create?

Several years ago we asked that question in an exhibition, the first Why Art? The exhibition was initiated because we believed the viewing public would be interested in learning artists’ responses. Artists were asked to submit works on any subject for consideration for the juried exhibition. They were asked to supply a statement, as well, that dealt with the simple yet expansive question, “Why do you create?”

The exhibition was a popular success. Several artists suggested it would be a good theme to repeat someday. Why art? 2 repeats that theme.
