Our Invitation

Mennonite Church Canada understands that its purpose is to “call, equip, and send the church to engage the world with the reconciling gospel of Jesus Christ.” This is significant and exciting agenda. Can you imagine our church when every single person in it understands her/his “call” according to the special gifts that God has given them and according to the reconciling agenda that characterizes God’s hope for the world? Can you imagine our church when each person’s call and gift has been discerned and the giftedness has been equipped to be as effective as possible? Can you imagine our church when the calling and the equipping of each person leads each one to engage the world around us with the compelling purposes of God’s hopes for the world? I am able to imagine that, and it is a very exciting picture. It is an enormous privilege to be able to participate in this purpose.

To engage this purpose our church has identified three critical priorities that need vigilant attention. We need to be intentional about forming the people of God, both among ourselves and with our many partners around the world. We need to grow in our desire to become a global church, to understand that our contribution to God’s purposes go much beyond our limitations of geography, history, and culture. And we need to grow leaders that can inspire, shape, and guide our church to be what we understand that it can and should be with the power of the Spirit of God.

And that’s why this directory is such a crucial resource for each person in our church. It focuses our attention and our information in such a way that we can all pray with knowledge about who we are and want to become as a church. We want to encourage each other to pray and to support all we do in an embrace of prayer. We welcome each of you to participate. We are confident that God will respond to our fervent prayers.
