China Church Flood Repairs

online or explore other Giving options

Mennonite Church Canada invites you to contribute toward this special project to make this rebuilding and repair of church buildings possible.

Graphic pictures and details of flood damage and losses cover the newspapers and TV headlines this summer. While those in Western China continue to suffer, flooding that occurred earlier in Eastern China has subsided and the slow, difficult work of clean-up and rebuilding has begun. Congregations in the Nanping area experienced severe flooding in June and the area was cut off from the rest of the province for weeks before the waters receded.

The Nanping group of congregations has been working together with congregations in a group called China Vision. These congregations are beginning to support each other in training, community outreach, and social service programs. This is the first time they have begun to work together in mutual aid. Mennonite Church Canada would like to support their efforts with a donation that can be used together with the funds being raised in China Vision congregations.

Congregational leaders in this area will assess damage, make plans for rebuilding and use the resources at hand to rebuild and repair where needed. Volunteer labour is relied upon within the congregations and the funds will be used for building materials.

Witness worker, Jeanette Hanson, along with colleague, Yin Hongtao, will follow progress of rebuilding plans and report on how the funds were used.

Contributions in excess of $4000 will support ongoing Mennonite Church Canada Witness ministries in China.
