Ministry

Mennonite Church Canada Witness supports the work of Mennonite workers serving through Joint Christian Services International (JCS) - a group of mission agencies comprising 14 member organizations. JCS ministries include English teaching, theological education, and economic and community development in a country with an emerging church, high unemployment, and many social problems. These ministries of development work offer hope to many Mongolian people who experience poverty and economic uncertainty. Many JCS projects are done in cooperation with the church in Mongolia which has been growing rapidly in recent years. Workers also participate with local Christians to encourage and nurture the rapidly growing Mongolian church. This ministry in Mongolia is administered by Mennonite Mission Network (MMN).

Celebrations

  • Mongolian churches are growing in terms of numbers, and local believers continue to grow in maturity and are providing leadership.
  • People’s lives are being changed as they become involved in the various projects run by JCS.

Challenges

  • Working with people who are experiencing deeply rooted poverty and few prospects of employment.
  • As the Mongolian church continues to grow there is a need for believers to understand and articulate the gospel through their own cultural grid.
  • The Mongolian language is very difficult for Westerners to learn, but proficiency is essential for communication.
  • Leadership changes in the JCS mission organization.
