Ministry

Mennonite Church Canada Witness has partnered with Peace Mennonite Church, Richmond, BC and other congregations across Canada to support and give direction to a peacebuilding ministry in the southern Philippines called “Peacebuilders Community”. In the conflicted area of Mindanao, the ministry has established a peace centre which provides an Anabaptist Christian home for peacebuilding teams who will serve Muslims, indigenous people, and Christians. Witness workers seek to be models of active non-violence in a conflicted land as they equip and multiply peace and reconciliation leaders in the way of Jesus Christ. Through Peacebuilders Community, Witness workers are helping to resource church leaders across the Philippines, including the Integrated Mennonite Churches (IMC) of the Philippines, to enhance a culture of peace and reconciliation in this country.

Our vision for this ministry

  • To establish contextually-relevant peace and reconciliation centres as homes for local peace and reconciliation teams.
  • To train and multiply effective peace and reconciliation team leaders for the global realities of the 21st century.
  • To support the leaders in developing their respective peace and reconciliation teams of volunteers in local conflict zones.
  • To assist the peace and reconciliation teams in accomplishing their peacebuilding mission in their specific conflict zone.
  • To establish relationships with other advocates of peace and justice with whom our teams would work side-by-side.
  • To resource churches across the Philippines toward ministries of peace and reconciliation
