Loan Policy

Usership

• Our services are available free-of-charge to all Mennonite Church Canada constituents, and to all Canadian Mennonite University faculty, staff and students.
• We also welcome other Canadians to use our Centre. A $30.00 annual membership fee will apply.  This can be applied to an individual or to a congregation.  There are no longer additional fees for videos or special items.
  
• We do not ship loan items across the Canadian border. We recommend that US visitors make their inquiries at a resource centre or library closer to home. 
• US visitors can not place purchase orders electronically, but may call us toll-free (1-866-888-6785) to place an order by credit card.  Items are shipped Expedited Parcel through Canada Post.
  

Length of Loan

• A regular loan for both books and videos is 4 weeks. Exceptions are made for a longer video series.
• A loan for seasonal materials (Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter) and new resources is 3 weeks (or 2 weeks within Winnipeg).
• Resources from our partner publishers (Mennonite Publishing Network, Cascadia Publishing House, SmallTall Music, Mennonite Foundation of Canada, Pandora Press, Korea Anabaptist Press, Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Institute of Mennonite Studies, CMU Press) may be loaned for 3 weeks (or 2 weeks in Winnipeg). These resources are intended as preview material only. If you intend to use the materials for a longer period of time, please purchase the materials either from this website, the publisher or your local bookstore. (Exceptions are given to out-of-print resources.)
  

Shipping

• Books (shipped free of charge both ways) will be mailed separately from non-book resources.  A free return label will be enclosed with all book shipments!  This label can only be applied to book returns.  Please place any DVDs, videos or other non-print items in a separate mailer.   These non-print items are returned at the borrower's cost.
• If a book has been picked up from a display table or in person at the Resource Centre, it will need to be returned at the borrower's cost.  To save this shipping cost, a borrower may request an item be shipped (at our expense) to their address instead.
• This special library rate applies only to borrowed books.  Books that are purchased are charged a shipping fee.  See fees below.
  

Reservations

Borrowers may reserve resources in advance, subject to availability, either by contacting the Centre or by selecting a future date in the online catalogue check-out process.

Overdues

After a short "grace period," overdue charges (the cost to replace the item) will be invoiced to the borrower. Failure to comply will result in the suspension of borrowing privileges.

Renewals

All items may be renewed for one additional two-week period, subject to demand.       

          Copyright

          Copyright law must be followed in the use of our materials.  For information about copyright law as it applies to churches in Canada, see                   the United Church of Canada Guide or contact us.

          Damage

Any damage to an item(s) should be reported immediately. Please do not try to mend the resource. If a replacement is required, the borrower will be invoiced for the cost.

Shipping Rates  (within Canada*)

• Shipping calculations differ between:
• Resource Centre (flat standard Canada Post rate based on volume)
• Heritage Centre (flat rates are later manually adjusted to reflect actual shipping costs/handling fee)
  
• Mennonite Publishing Network (Canada Post expedited rate based on weight and dimensions; manual adjustments are made to items under 500 grams).
  
• Shipping rates below do not include the GST.
  
• Rates are subject to change.

Please note:  the free return label that accompanies a book loan can only be applied to book returns.  Please place any DVDs, videos or other non-print items in a separate mailer.   These non-print items are returned at the borrower's cost.

*US visitors may purchase items by calling us toll-free (1-866-888-6785).  Purchase orders are sent Expedited Parcel through Canada Post.

Mennonite Church Canada Heritage Centre:

The Resource Centre's flat rates will be adjusted at the time of shipping to reflect actual shipping costs and an additional handling fee.

Mennonite Publishing Network/Cascadia Publishing House:

Rates are based on weight and dimension and shipped using Canada Post expedited parcel service.
