Fast for Change:
7 Days to Tend The Earth: Resource Kit
This beautiful earth sustains us, and whether or not we recognize the mysteries of all living and non-living things, God is indeed present in them. The act of producing food is one of the best ways to reflect on the secrets of creation. We too often forget that creation is a constant activity of God rather than a single moment when God formed the world, wound it up and set it in motion. When we grow, raise, tend or catch food we are direct participants in this activity and we benefit spiritually when we recognize our own role in it.
This kit includes learning activities for children, youth and adults, sermon starters on the food justice theme
It also includes the Fast for Change Companion entitled 7 Weeks of Finding the Divine in Dinner enables groups to dig deeper into the issues presented in the booklet 7 Days of Food for the Soul, with an outline for each session including music, prayers, print-outs, fact sheets, and resource materials on how to lead the activities. Groups can use the booklet on an individual basis to prepare themselves for a group process that will deepen reverence for food while learning more about food justice and the impact of our food choices on creation, society, and international issues around hunger. There is a longing to come back to a healthy relationship between people and food, and these exercises can facilitate this process. Dig in!
