A former Benedictine prioress, Joan Chittister asks, "What will it take to get to Heaven in the 21st century? What will it take to live Benedictine values?" She suggests looking back to the 5th and 6th centuries for answers. Questioning many values held today in the United States, including the huge outlays for military spending and the short shrift given to the poor, she calls them "not the values that saved Western Europe 1500 years ago." She ponders "After 9/11, who are we? What questions should we be asking?"
