July 4, 2006

This is the week when the Mennonite Church Canada delegates meet in Edmonton. Important discussion and discernment will take place. One discussion has to do with our MC Canada’s response to the desire by some congregations to have membership only in the Area Conference. Another has to do with developing a process for using scripture to focus our annual planning. Please pray for both of these items in particular and the success of the Assembly in general as delegates from across the country meet to discern God’s will for the church.

Witness Workers: Sudermans from China and Buhlers from Macau have just arrived in Canada. Pray for them as they move to various locations in Canada and the US, for the time with people in their home context, and for their sharing and learning during their North American Ministry.

July 9, 2006

The Mennonite Church Canada Assembly ended on Friday of this week. Please pray that the spirit of goodwill and unity that was present there will become present in every person and congregation across our country.

Annual Assembly in Edmonton has just come to an end. The Ramsays were able to share about their work in Mongolia and the Buhlers shared about their work in Macau. Your support enables the Buhlers and the Ramsays to minister in these countries and share these experiences with congregations here in Canada.

July 16, 2006 Witness Workers on North American Ministry and some staff of Mennonite Church Canada are attending Mission Seminar in Indiana this week. Please pray for good fellowship and learning as new workers prepare to leave for assignments and returning workers decide how best to share their experiences in ministry. Witness Workers Phil and Julie Bender arrived from China at the beginning of this month. They have wrapped up another academic year at Chongqing University and are ready to share stories of faith-sharing and relationship building. Their ministry is made possible because of your support. Thank you.
July 23, 2006

Native Assembly 2006 is being hosted by the Poarch Community of Atmore, Alabama on July 24-27. Please pray for the attendees’ safety while travelling, guidance for workshop speakers and leaders, and for good fellowship and sharing.

Three programs at the Zaporozhye Bible College will be accredited and four new programs are now accepted on candidate status. Your prayer and fi nancial support have contributed toward the education and ministry that the college provides in Ukraine.

July 30, 2006 Some students of the Zaporozhye Bible College, Ukraine are participating in summer ministries including a missions outreach in Kazakhstan. Please pray for the students’ preparation and support during this time. Thank God for the growing ministry of the college. The Living Water Church in Borabur, Thailand together with Witness Workers Pat and Rad Houmphan are thankful that their purchase of property for a future church building has been approved. Thank-you for the support that has made this church growth in Thailand a reality.

Dan Nighswander and Yvonne Snider-Nighswander are beginning as Witness Workers in South Africa. Teaching theology, supporting the Africa Initiated Churches and HIV/AIDS ministries are all part of their new assignment. Please pray for them as they adjust to their new context and pray for the ministries in which they work.

Daniel and Joji Pantoja are Witness Workers in the Philippines where they prepare and equip Christian peace-building team leaders, provide social assistance, and are establishing a peace community centre. It is your support that makes their work in the Philippines possible.

Rod and Kathi Suderman and family are returning to China, as full time Mennonite Central Committee coordinators and Mission Associates with MC Canada. They will be expanding their work in China and will have close contact with China Educational Exchange. Please pray for the Sudermans during this time of transition as they adapt to their new role.

Phil and Julie Bender, Witness workers, are fi nishing up their North American Ministry and returning to China during the last week of August. Thanks to your support they can continue to be seed-sowers of faith as they answer questions about Christ, as they build friendships, and as they teach English.

August 20, 2006 Summer camps play an important role in nurturing the growing faith of children. As the camping season comes to a close, give thanks for the spiritual growth of children in your congregation, and for the leadership provided by youth and adults in this ministry of faith formation. Jeff and Tany Warkentin are new Witness Workers to Burkina Faso this year. Your fi nancial and prayer support makes it possible for them to assist in a Mennonite church plant in Ouaga and to form relationships to university students in the local church.

As churches across the country begin their Fall Christian education programs, pray in particular for those in your congregation who will be teaching. Pray that the Holy Spirit might use the new Gather ‘Round curriculum to enlighten the minds and open the hearts of young and old as they begin another season of learning together.

MC Canada supports Connexus, a language institute operating as part of the Korea Anabaptist Center’s educational ministry. Thanks to your support Connexus is able to provide a valuable English teaching ministry with a community atmosphere.
