There is a growing difficulty in recruiting English as a Second Language teachers for three year teaching terms in China. Mennonite Partners in China, a ministry partner of Mennonite Church Canada Witness, has expressed concern about this shortage and needs prayer and wisdom to respond to the situation as well as prayer for more individuals to respond to the ministry opportunities in China.

Mennonite Church Canada invites you to participate in an exciting visit to a peacebuilding ministry to the Philippines on January 29 to February 8! Tour Leaders Gordon Janzen, and Dann and Joji Pantoja will guide participants through times of reflection, visits, and worship to gain a broad understanding of God’s peacebuilding work in the Philippines. An updated translation of the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective into Laotian is nearing completion. Chinda Kommala, a lay leader in the Lao Canadian Evangelical Mennonite Church in Toronto is the translator, and is testing his translation in the Christian education program of his congregation as his work progresses. Your gifts to MC Canada help provide support for translation projects like this, which make key faith instruction materials available to the church in a variety of languages.

Representatives from a variety of Mennonite church and mission bodies in North America gather annually for the Council of International Anabaptist Ministries (CIM). Please pray for MC Canada Witness staff and the other representatives of Mennonite Church and mission bodies as they collaborate in Anabaptist mission efforts in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America.

Daniel and Joji Pantoja, Witness workers in the Philippines, will host a learning tour from Canada in the coming weeks. Your support contributes to the ministry in the Philippines and makes it possible for Daniel and Joji to teach others about peace in the Philippines and in North America.

On this Sunday Mennonite Foundation of Canada focuses our attention on the task of faithfully managing God’s gifts to us, particularly our material goods. Whether we consider ourselves rich or poor, it is easy to be enthralled with wealth and its accessories, and to assume that if we had more we would be satisfied. Pray that God will bless the work of Mennonite Foundation, will help us find contentment with whatever we have, and that God will provide the strength we need to be faithful. Pray also that our generous God will infect us with the joy of giving.
