July 1

The MC Canada Children’s Assembly takes place July 7-10. Pray that the curriculum, Gettin’ on Track with God’s People, will help children, junior youth and volunteers experience the blessings of being part of the church family in MC Canada and will deepen their trust in Jesus through music, puppet plays, activities and relationships Planning for the 2009 Youth Assembly of Mennonite Church Canada has begun! It’ll be in Caronport, Sask., July 6-10, 2009. The theme is “Living Inside Out.” Keynote presenters so far are Shane Claiborne (see www.thesimpleway.org) and Michelle Hershberger. For more info visit www. mennonitechurch.ca/tiny/600 and check back often for updates, or contact Anna Rehan 306-249-4844, email arehan@mennonitechurch.ca. Even as the Mennonite Church Canada Delegate Assembly 2008 approaches, a Planning Committee is already at work shaping the 2009 Youth Assembly. Your generous gifts to the church help provide this biennial opportunity for youth from our congregations to build relationships with young people from across the country and to be inspired to live in service to the kingdom of God.
July 8 Summer church camps play an important role in calling out and nurturing the leadership gifts of youth and young adults who serve in staff roles. Offer a prayer of thanks for the many gifts of the Holy Spirit to the church. Pray that we will continue to be welcoming and encouraging to young people as they serve in leadership roles. Exhibits at the Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery open windows to the cultural perspectives and experiences of our global community through art. The budget of the MHC Gallery is met primarily through your donations. Thank you for your ongoing support! The current exhibit, Memories and Parachutes: Contemporary Art from Cuba will be on display until July 26, 2008. For more information, see www.mennonitechurch.ca/programs/gallery/

July 15

Thank God for ministry partners like Mennonite Partners in China (MPC) who continue to provide relief for victims of the earthquake and aftershocks in China. Peter Yuan, General Director of the Sichuan Christian Council and a teacher at the Sichuan Theological Seminary, works closely with MPC. Pray for strength and wisdom for Peter and other Christian leaders during this critical time. Mennonite Church Canada supports the Bolivian Evangelical Mennonite church in leadership development, Christian education and subsidies for retreats for youth, children and leaders. Thank you for the support that makes this global church growth possible.
July 22 MC Canada Native Ministries and Native Mennonite Ministries (USA) co-sponsor Native Assembly 2008, which takes place July 28-31 in Clinton, Oklahoma. Please pray for assembly planners and for the speakers addressing the gathering under the theme “Unity and Service, in the Name of Christ”. Also pray for safe travel for those who commute from across North America to attend this bi-annual gathering. Earlier this year, the Neufeld family returned from their time of ministry in Japan where they taught English, strengthened an Anabaptist/Mennonite identity and encouraged outreach and vibrant worship in local churches. Thank you for your support of Gerald and Rie and their family during their years as Witness Workers in Japan.
