October 5
World Communion Sunday

Today is World Communion Sunday. Pray that the unity we experience at the Lord’s table as brothers and sisters in Christ will serve as an inspiration to others. Pray that our demeanor as children of God will encourage individuals, families and larger society to find the common ground necessary for peace, reconciliation and engagement in loving community. Tim Froese, Executive Director of International Ministries, together with Wilmer Martin, President of TourMagination, will lead a Learning Tour to Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay in conjunction with Mennonite World Conference 2009. Through daily worship, reflection and conversation, participants will connect with what God is doing in South America and gain a greater appreciation for God’s work of reconciliation, hope and healing. In addition, participants will be challenged to see and share how God is moving in their own lives. Spaces are still available! For more information contact TourMagination at 1-800-565-0451 or office@tourmagination.com Circulation of Resource Centre materials has increased dramatically over the last few years (up 88% since 2004). In addition, many more people are downloading our free materials online. Your continued support of the Resource Centre has allowed us to make Anabaptist materials more accessible across Canada through an online catalogue, free shipping with book orders, and the Cheaper by the Dozen bulk-loan option.
October 12 Long-standing controversy over land distribution in the Philippines has resulted in decades of conflict. Pray that the violence resulting from recent setbacks to peace talks will cease, and that the Holy Spirit will empower Peacebuilders Community Inc. (PBCI) to facilitate reconciliation and to provide spiritual and physical relief for those in need. PBCI is a ministry supported by MC Canada Witness through workers Daniel and Joji Pantoja, and interns Darnell and Christina Barkman. Your contributions to Mennonite Church Canada have helped Communauté Evangélique Mennonite (CEM) of Congo hire two workers for a six-month period to run a recently purchased brick-making press in Mbuji-Mayi. The bricks produced will be used to build local structures such as churches and schools. CEM foresees selling bricks to raise money for a variety of community needs and to provide income for local families. Thank you for making a difference in Congo!

Claire Bergen is currently assisting in a medical clinic in the community of Itipini in Umtata, South Africa, through Mennonite Church Canada’s Internship program. Pray that Claire will be a blessing and inspiration to those whom she serves, and that this experience will be a blessing to her. God’s church is growing in Thailand through the ministry of MC Canada Witness Workers, Pat and Rad Houmphan and the development of a new church community in Kosum Phisai. Thank you for helping Pat and Rad share God’s love and hope with the people of Thailand!
October 26 Mennonite Heritage Sunday Alf Redekopp, Heritage Centre Director, has been sent to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, on a special assignment from Sept 15 to Oct 22. Pray that God will use Alf as a source of witness and encouragement as he serves for one month as Archivist Consultant at the Evangelical Seminary of South Africa. God’s people are called to remember God’s faithfulness and love, which we are then to share with others. With your support, the Mennonite Heritage Centre offers material and personnel to catalogue and share the work and faithfulness of God’s people in the past. MHC Staff Alf Redekopp, Connie Wiebe and Conrad Stoesz help hundreds of people each year find historical answers–from church goers and the unchurched, to radio producers and authors, genealogists and community historians.
