November 2
Peace
Sunday

In a Society that teaches peace can be achieved through military intervention, Mennonite Church Canada is working hard to share Anabaptist theology and tools for building peace without violence. Pray that the work of MC Canada will open ears, minds and hearts to Christ’s example, paving the way for dialogue rather than aggression, grace instead of criticism, and hope in place of despair. no advance announcements
this month
Your support of MC Canada has made it possible for the Korea Anabaptist Center (KAC) to grow its ministry since 2001. Today it celebrates its 7th Anniversary. With a primarily Korean staff, KAC facilitates networking among Korean Anabaptists, publishes Anabaptist resources, and provides peace education and Anabaptist teaching for churches and seminaries.

November 9
Mission
Sunday

MC Canada Witness workers prepare the soil for the seeds of God’s peace and reconciliation by nurturing relationships among the people with whom they work. Pray that God will richly bless these relationships, allowing fruit of the spirit to blossom and grow. Lindy,” a student of Witness workers Phil and Julie Bender in Chongqing, China, was baptized last Christmas and has been eagerly sharing God’s love. She helped with earthquake relief efforts in May and now teaches Sunday School in her Chongqing church. Your support of Witness workers in China is making a difference in the lives of many!

November 16

Praise God for the energy, enthusiasm and dedication of new staff at the Mennonite Church Canada office. Karen Martens Zimmerly officially assumed her role as Denomination Minister and Director of Leadership Development on September 15 and Norm Dyck arrived on October 1 to begin his position as the Director of Congregational Partnerships. Mennonite congregations in Canada currently worship in 13 different languages. Your financial gifts to the Resource Centre and to the ministry of Christian Formation help MC Canada meet the challenge of providing resources in a variety of languages, to nurture strong faith and build congregational life for God’s global family.
November 23 Though tough economic realities are just beginning to affect us here in North America, people in many areas of the world have been struggling for some time and their situations are worsening. Pray that adequate nutrition will reach people in Africa, India, China and around the world as they cope with rising food prices. Peacebuilders Community Inc. (PBCI) is working for peace in Mindanao, Philippines where conflict over land distribution has been ongoing for four decades. Since war broke out in August, PBCI has been distributing relief to displaced families in the region. Your contributions to MC Canada help support this relief project as well as the efforts of Witness workers and PBCI founders, Daniel and Joji Pantoja. For more information about the conflict and the Pantoja’s ministry, see www.mennonitechurch.ca/tiny/752 and www.mennonitechurch.ca/tiny/795.
November 30
First Sunday
of Advent
O God of light, let your face shine upon us. Open our eyes that we may see you in the people and circumstances we encounter. Help us to remember that you are always present, in light and in darkness. Congregations across MC Canada are finalizing their budgets for next year. Your support of MC Canada helps us provide local congregations with pastor’s salary guidelines and other human resource tools. Find these tools by searching “human resources” at the online MC Canada Resource Centre: www.mennonitechurch.ca/resources.
