Although recent civil unrest has subsided in Thailand, Pat and Rad Houmphan have expressed concern about political instability and the possibility that the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) will attempt to remove whatever new government succeeds the ousted regime.
Pray that the search for leadership in Thailand will not result in violence.

Almost every day someone comes to the Mennonite Heritage Centre seeking help to discover who they are and where they came from. For some this is a process of reconciliation. Nearly every historical record on file has the potential to bring peace and new understanding. Thanks to your support, staff Alf Redekopp, Connie Wiebe and Conrad Stoesz help hundreds of people discover their past – and often their faith–each year. MC Canada Witness workers in Ethiopia, Dianne and Fanosie Legesse, report that 70 percent of all Ethiopians have no income. Pray that God will provide for the people of Ethiopia and that through God’s grace, Ethiopians will be able to face their circumstances with hope and strength. Praise God for the generosity of Mennonite Church Canada Sunday School children across the country who raise money to support various projects around the world. We are grateful for and blessed by the commitment of our young people to the Kingdom of God.

January 18
Stewardship Sunday

Connexus, a language school associated with our partner, the Korea Anabaptist Center in Seoul, South Korea, enables MC Canada Witness workers to build relationships with students and share the rich message of Christ. Pray that new teachers will be found to join the Connexus team. Thank for your support of Mennonite Church Canada ministries in 2008. You continue to be an important part of the work we do together. Your gifts to our 2008 calendar year are gratefully received and receipted until Jan. 31, 2009, our fiscal year end.
Thank you for making a difference.
With your support, Peacebuilders Community Inc. (PBCI) is establishing peacebuilding teams to promote peace between the Philippine government and rebel groups in Mindanao who have been in conflict over land distribution issues for four decades. Following the outbreak of war in August, PBCI staff has been distributing relief to displaced families in the region.
January 25
World Fellowship Sunday
Human rights violations in Colombia are ongoing. Pray that the Holy Spirit will bear witness to the gospel of peace through the Church in Colombia and through the efforts of MC Canada Mission Associate Rebecca Bartel who works in Colombia through Mennonite Central Committee. The 2009 Mennonite Church Canada wall calendar continues our annual tradition of sharing information about special Sundays like Church Education Sunday and events sponsored by Mennonite agencies like MCC relief sales. Look for the calendar on your congregation’s bulletin board or visit the online version at mennonitechurch.ca/mc-cwebcalendar/. Thank you for your support which makes resources like this possible.
