Ministry Notes:

This is how your financial support of Mennonite Church Canada is ministering...from across the street to around the world!

March 1
(1st Sunday of Lent)

God provides for Creation: Faithful God, our lives are in your hands. As we embark on this Lenten journey of surrender, help us to trust in your faithful provisions for all of Creation. As we prepare for Easter, let us remember those across the street and around the world to whom suffering is commonplace, and empower us to step forward in service as instruments of your peace and purpose.

So what does Mennonite Church Canada do anyway? Find out by subscribing to bi-weekly e-news stories at www.mennonitechurch.ca/tiny/174.

Looking for a new career challenge? Check out www.mennonitechurch.ca/tiny/241 for employment opportunities with Mennonite Church Canada.

Scott Bergen, Dorothea Toews, and Rebecca Willms are in South America as Canadian participants in Radical Journey, a young adult service program. Thank you for helping these young people gain cross-cultural experiences that will help to shape them for a lifetime of service to God’s church.

March 8
(2nd Sunday of Lent)

God blesses us for service: God of many blessings, we pray that you will make our lives fruitful for service so that we may help to build your Kingdom! Pray for an enriching trip to China this month for Pastor Jim Loepp-Thiessen of The Gathering Church in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont. and Wilmer and Barb Froese from Rosthern MC, SK. Travelling with long-term MC Canada Witness worker Jeanette Hanson, these pastors will have opportunities to meet and fellowship with Chinese church leaders. Upon their return, their experiences will allow them to share fresh new visions with their congregations of what Witness is doing in China. MC Canada Witness workers Dan Nighswander and Yvonne Snider-Nighswander provide leadership development for many churches in South Africa, including the Way of Life Church in Khayelitsha. The effects of pastoral enrichment in Way of Life are rippling through the congregation and into a nearby high school. A growing relationship between them has opened doors for sharing faith as well as for shaping the values of teens. Thank you for helping to support Dan and Yvonne and the church in South Africa!
March 15
(3rd Sunday of Lent)
God overturns human wisdom: God of wisdom, open our eyes to understand your way and help us to abide by your truths rather than our human understanding. Pray that the Holy Spirit will encourage Mennonite Church Canada and all Christians to be active participants in the reconciliation and healing process between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Canada. The Mennonite Heritage Centre and Art Gallery is a daily witness of Christ’s love to those who visit. Recently, a new display was installed that explains our faith heritage to visitors. For visitors, this is the public face of our faith. Thank you for your support of this ministry.

March 22
(4th Sunday of Lent)

God restores in the Midst of Despair: God of Restoration, may your healing presence work within us and through us! Pray for Christian churches and ministries in India as they face a new onslaught of anti-Christian attacks and activities. Pray that in the midst of these trials, God will give them courage and wisdom to reach out to their neighbours in a spirit of compassion and peace. In 2008, Canadian Mennonite published 58 stories and columns about Mennonite Church Canada ministry, and delivered 24 issues to over 15,000 homes. Thank you for supporting your denominational magazine.
March 29
(5th Sunday of Lent)
God leads from failure into life: We worship our Lord, who leads us from disappointment into life. Pray that Palmer and Ardys Becker, who are on Special Assignment to Bethlehem Bible College with MC Canada Witness, will find ways to support and encourage students, including some from Gaza, who have been traumatized by the January fighting in Gaza. Pray also for God’s Shalom to shed light upon the despair in Gaza and Israel. God is abundantly blessing the church in Thailand! Witness workers Pat and Rad Houmphan report that in addition to ten new and recently baptized followers of Christ, the lay leadership training program is doing well. A leadership last fall offered fellowship and a study of spiritual gifts in effective ministry. Thank you for helping us to share the Good News in Thailand!
