Palm Sunday

God rules in Humility: Forgiving and redeeming God, we give thanks for the grace you have extended to us through Jesus, our surprising King who rode on a donkey! –Pray that God will grant wisdom, compassion, energy and companionship to the many Mennonite Church Canada international workers who have placed your call above the desires of their own hearts in order to serve you. On Sunday, March 1, Aboriginal elder, Barb Daniels, was commissioned as a leader in the Riverton Fellowship Circle (Manitoba). This Aboriginal congregation is partnered with four Winnipeg Mennonite churches, Bethel, Douglas, Home Street, and Sargent Avenue, through MC Canada Native Ministry’s Partnership Circles. Thank you for your support of this important national ministry and the relationships that are being nurtured through it! (WOW p. 19)

Good Friday

Jesus taught us to love each other: Lord, we are blessed by your love, a love that is stronger than our greatest fears. When we are grief-stricken by thoughts of Jesus’ crucifixion, remind us that this Friday is considered “good” because not even death can overwhelm your love and grace. –Pray that seeds of the Word will be planted in the fertile soil of youth through a new children’s ministry in Borabu, Thailand. MC Canada Witness Workers Pat and Rad Houmphan and the Living Water Church of Borabu are partnering with Compassion Thailand to witness to and care for more than 100 children. Former Witness worker Cheryl Woelk and Hong-Soek (Scott) Kim, were married on March 28th in South Korea. Cheryl was a MC Canada Witness worker in Seoul, South Korea for many years at the Korea Anabaptist Center (KAC). Thank God for the gift of Cheryl’s long term contributions, and thank you for your support of her ministry over the years! (WOW p. 85)

Easter Sunday
God whom we praise: Dear God, Deliverer of our living Lord, we praise you for the power of your forgiving, life-giving love! We thank you for raising Jesus from the dead to bring us forgiveness and salvation. We thank you for the dedicated Christians who have come before us, transformed by your love and shaping for us a legacy of commitment to your son, Jesus. Thank you for continuing to live in us and around us, and for showing us that your love is stronger than sin and death.

The Christian church and the Aboriginal community have traveled a rocky road together. Can this relationship be healed, and if so, what can the ordinary person contribute to the healing? Tune in to Mennonite Church Canada’s podcast, Church Matters, to learn more.

MC Canada Witness Workers Tim and Cindy Buhler (Macau) report that a weekly English time in their home has transformed into a Bible study. This change occurred when two university professors who joined the group made faith commitments to Christ. With your support, teaching English has become an invaluable way for MC Canada Witness Workers to model Christ and share the Good News of God’s Kingdom. (WOW p. 72)

April 19

Pray that Anne Garber Kompaoré, MC Canada Witness worker in Burkina Faso, will sense God’s leading as she determines which projects to undertake and which to let go over the next year. The recent passing of a co-worker has left Anne with an unusually challenging agenda. (WOW p. 45; WOW web page) This web site gets over 600,000 hits and 21,000 unique visitors every month. Your support of Mennonite Church Canada helps enable this ministry. Thank you!
April 26 Pray that the logistics of travel to South America will come together in a smooth and timely fashion for participants in the Mennonite World Conference Assembly in Paraguay, July 14-19, 2009. Pray that, through this experience, Mennonites from around the world will better understand one another, and recognize more clearly that which binds us together as followers of Jesus. Pray also for new collaborative relationships in mission through the Global Mission Fellowship. (WOW p. 123-125) Shane Claiborne, Michele Hershberger and Jeanette Hanson are the speakers for the MC Canada Youth Assembly in Caronport on July 6-10, 2009. Because of your support for youth ministry, MC Canada is able to plan events like this. Thank you!
