Second Mile

Second Mile is an inter-Anabaptist educational tool that empowers congregations to proclaim and be active signs of Christ's peace and justice in a broken world.

Second Mile is:

  • Biblical. Anabaptist. Current. It has us ask, "What does it mean to follow Jesus' way of peace today?"
  • The first adult peace curriculum in over a generation.
  • A fresh new curriculum format designed to engage adult participants in study, action, reflection and worship.
  • Flexible. Interesting. Accessible. The resources are divided into four "Pathways," each with 20 pamphlets, allowing congregations to pick and choose and to map out their own peace journey.
  • Active. Peacemaking must move from discussion and belief to practice and engagement. Tools for action are included with the materials.
  • Holistic, including topics like: church and family relationships, restorative justice, creation care, responses to racism and sexism, lives of service.

"Second Mile is both timely and refreshing. There is no more critical a time than today to hear again Jesus' gospel of peace. And how refreshing (and imperative) to not only be challenged to hear, but to also link our study with worship, reflection and action in a manner true to Jesus' way of peace. I pray that Second Mile will begin discussions in our families and congregations that swell into prayer and action."

Peace Sunday Packet: "Peacemaking and Evangelism"

November 10 is Peace Sunday. Mennonite Church Canada is again recommending the MCC Peace Packet for use across our constituency. Its theme, "Peacemaking and Evangelism" is a crucial reminder for us to embrace both the biblical vision of shalom and the celebration and sharing of Christ's good news. Peacemaking and evangelism are one! As in other years, this resource is thick and multi-facetted and best used in a series of events, even outside the one Sunday designated as Peace Sunday. The resource is packed with worship aids, inspirational stories and quotations, action ideas for children, youth, adults and intergenerational group contexts. There is something for pastors, worship leaders, youth leaders and Missions and Peace Committees.

Look for the Peace Packet in your next MCC mailing. Churches will receive one copy in September. To order additional copies, at nominal cost, call the Mennonite Church Canada Resource Centre (1-866-888-6785) or contact your nearest MCC office.
