This past summer, Glyn Jones, Mennonite Church Canada Witness worker in Botswana, traveled to Zambia with a group of youth, to learn how churches are responding to the HIV/AIDS crisis. Pray for the church as they look at lifestyle choices, get handles on the present consequences, and find ways to minister to the multiple needs of people with HIV/AIDS.

The church in Cuba has requested assistance in training their pastors. Jack Suderman and Janet Plenert just completed teaching the first of six week-long courses of a Biblical Theological curriculum. This course for pastoral training is supported by Mennonite Church Canada Witness. Your support is crucial for the church leadership in Cuba.

Praise God with thanksgiving for the many opportunities we have as a church to share the gospel, from across the street to around the world. Together as congregations, area conferences and Mennonite Church Canada, we have multiple opportunities to share of God’s healing and hope in a world that desperately seeks peace and joy.

This week Gordon Janzen, Partnership Facilitator for Asia& Middle East with Mennonite Church Canada Witness, is traveling in Asia for two weeks to visit mission workers in their context. This coming week, Christian Witness Council and the Mennonite Mission Network board are meeting to work at common issues as we partner in mission in North America and around the world. May we all be open to God’s vision of many people working together to build God’s Kingdom, living faithfully to God’s calling.

Your prayer is invited, as together we seek to meet the financial faith commitment to the world of witness through Mennonite Church Canada. As a church, at the end of August, we were $113,000 behind our plan. Give thanks in what has been offered and be in prayer for that which is needed.

In Thailand, Pat and Rad Houmphan have planted churches and worked hard at developing local leadership. This has proved to be very beneficial for the local church during Pat & Rad’s year long North American assignment. Your support is strengthening the church both locally and internationally.

Pray for the writers and editors of the new Christian education curriculum “Gather Round: hearing and sharing God’s good news” as they prepare a valuable new resource for the teaching ministry of the church, scheduled for completion in 2006.

A number of Mennonite Church Canada Witness workers are involved in the China Educational Exchange meetings that are taking place in Bejing on October 24 & 25. By supporting these workers, we are able to develop relationships, build a climate of understanding for each other’s culture, have a Christian presence, and exchange faith stories.

October 31, 2004 Mennonite Heritage Sunday Offer a prayer of thanks for the Spirit-led leaders long ago who envisioned a renewed Anabaptist Christian faith, and for present-day leaders who call the church to be vital and relevant.

Church leaders in Saskatchewan were invited to participate in a workshop this weekend, ‘Being a Church that Makes a Difference - Missional training for lay leaders’. Your support for Mennonite Church Canada Congregational Partnerships assists in facilitating regional workshops such as this.
