Prayer for Grace
September 11, 2001

Let us give way to God
to Jesus,
the way
the truth
the life.

Let us not give way
to hatred,
to vengeance,
or rage,
for that is not the way to peace.

Let us not give way
to intolerance,
to blame
or scapegoating.
Let us give way to God,
the way to peace.

In our small sight,
we share moments of shock
but God, your creation
doesn't shock you.

In our small world
the tragedy is great
but to you, each one of us
is a tragedy or a triumph.

God, give us triumph in small
measures of peaceful living.

Lord, let us not give way to hate,
but follow your way,
through New York,
through Pennsylvania,
through the fallen towers,
to the cross,
from where you taught
the lesson of forgiveness,
and held out to us
the way of peace.
