About Prayer: in the presence of God
"Prayer: in the presence of God invites us to spend time with God.
The stories, images, and excercises that Claire Ewert Fisher chooses, focus on
the intimate and emotional nature of prayer. Her questions for reflection provide
the context in which groups can be bold enough to talk with each other about their
prayer experiences.
The Resources Commission of Mennonite Church Canada recommends Prayer: in
the presence of God for both personal and congregational study and prayer.
May the use of this booklet encourage us to pray for "in your (God's) presence
there is fullness of joy." (Psalm 16:11)."
About the author
Born
and raised on the Saskatchewan prairie, Claire Ewert Fisher experienced an early
call to the pastorate. When told that "women don't do that," she pursued
other interests. Upon graduation from university, she and her first husband, Wally,
went to live and work in Vietnam, Thailand, and the Phillipines. Seven years in
Asia were interupted by ten years of farming near Drake, Saskatchewan. Two children
completed their family. Shortly after their return from the Phillipines, Wally
died. This marked Fisher's return to study for the ministry. When she and Garth
married, they decided to pastor together. They are now co-pastors in the rural
communities of Fiske and Herschel, Saskatchewan. Claire enjoys her faith communities
there, and in her spare time works with soil and clay to bring forth life.
