Mennonite Church Canada Witness appoints mission workers on the basis of different gifts and time commitments. Witness workers of all categories are expected to meet the qualifications for MC Canada mission workers and to serve toward goals and in ways that are consistent with those of Mennonite Church Canada Witness.

Special Assignment (short term assignments of up to 1 year)

MC Canada occasionally places persons into short-term Special Assignments for specific short-term ministries. Generally these persons have a combination of special skills, language fluency, and international experience needed for specific assignments and which are short-term and/or urgent. MC Canada will negotiate the appropriate remuneration, though such assignments are often voluntary.

Mission Associates (terms of 1 or more years)

Mission Associates are those persons serving internationally with a church or agency other than Mennonite Church Canada who desire close relationship with Mennonite Church Canada, its ministries, Witness workers and constituency, and serve with an agency whose goals and vision are compatible to those of Mennonite Church Canada Witness.

Mission Interns (1 year)

The internship program is for those who wish to discern whether international ministry is an appropriate way to respond to God's call for a life of discipleship. Interns are placed alongside long-term Witness workers or partners to test that call. Mission Interns are appointed for a term of one year, though shorter assignments are sometimes appropriate. Mission Interns are responsible for raising their own financial support.

Witness International Volunteer (WIV) (1-3 years)

International Volunteers serve in the priority ministries of Mennonite Church Canada. Their basic living expenses will be covered by MC Canada or partners, and in addition they receive a stipend. This category would be applied to workers in their first 3-year assignment with Mennonite Church Canada Witness. It is not assumed that WIVs will continue in their assignments as full salaried workers upon completion of their term, unless they are serving in what is hoped to be a long-term role.

International Tentmakers (3 year terms)

International Tentmakers are self-employed or employed in a secular organization outside Canada and engage in mission in their country of employment with counsel and prayer support from Mennonite Church Canada Witness.

International Mission Partnership Workers (successive 3 year terms)

International mission partnership workers (IMPW) serve under the appointment, general direction and financial support of MC Canada. In many cases, they are directly supervised by a church or agency partner of MC Canada. Re-appointments are considered prior to the end of the term.
