Assignment objective

This experience is designed to create a space for adults to enter into an intentional process of faith formation within an Anabaptist perspective. This program will also help young adults to develop their leadership abilities. The program is 12 months long and has three phases:

  • Orientation: A two week orientation in Chicago is designed to set the background and expectations for the ongoing conversations, study, reflection, service and practice of spiritual disciplines that will continue throughout the year.
  • Cross-cultural experience: The next 10 months are spent in an international service location. In most locations participants will live with host families and participate in a variety of service opportunities connected to the local faith community.
  • Integration: Upon returning, participants will be asked to spend one month integrating their experience and learnings back into their home church communities.

It is our prayer that participants will continue to influence and form communities of faith and service and participate in the work of calling others to a lifestyle of following Jesus Christ

Financial Arrangements

Participant costs are approximately $9000. This covers travel to and from the immersion location, room and board during the orientation and immersion phases, Chicago orientation and in-country orientation costs (some locations include basic language study), team retreat travel and expenses, and local transportation costs. Staff and advocacy teams serve as a resource to you as you consider ways to raise these funds. A sample fundraising letter can be found in your information packet.
