The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.”

Season of Creation starts with a day of prayer for creation on September 1, the first day of the Orthodox church calendar, a day to commemorate God’s creation of the world. It is observed over the following five Sundays, ending on October 4, the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology. “

Mennonite Church Canada’s Sustainability Leadership Group together with 5 writers from our nationwide family of faith, have put together a robust series of resources for a meaningful journey through the Season of Creation.

If you haven’t already subscribed, order the Summer Issue (for only $18.50 CAD) and check it out. Click here to see the introductory pages of these materials, which include suggestions for songs, themes, scripture, children’s time, visuals and weekly activities to support the theme.

Marie Moyer (Lethbridge Mennonite Church) writes:

“I was excited to be part of this writing team because I wanted to contribute to a conversation on this topic that was deeply rooted in our shared faith. So often I feel pushed to identify myself with a political side on this (and really every other hot topic of the day). I yearn for my perspective and actions to identify me to others first and foremost as Christian. My daring hope is that these materials will be a source of unity, finding common ground for our churches across North America in our worship of a God who loves both us and this amazing world which we have been given as our home.”

And Tim Wiebe Neufeld (First Mennonite Church, Edmonton) writes:

“It was a joy to be a part of the Season of Creation writing team. Right from the start we were drawn to the message of God's healing and restorative power that comes through in God's creation. So often we hear the message to "save" the earth. Really, through God's presence, provision,  and blessing it saves us! Our meetings were full of insights, creativity, and inspiration. As we worked together you could truly feel the movement of God's Spirit!”

Mykayla Turner (Ottawa Mennonite Church) writes:

“What's your favourite part of the Season of Creation series?  The children's resources are my favourite part of this series! I specifically love the short prayers that we've developed for praying with children. Sometimes we can learn more about God and creation from a couple of simple lines written for young ears than what a whole sermon might cover.”
