Made by Many Hands: Leave Your Mark at Gathering 2025

Artist statement - Myrna Millar Dyck

As I considered a visual piece for the conference, I was intrigued by the image of a fingerprint with the accompanying verse, “Each one has received a gift.” All of our gifts come from God, and each of us are marked by the fingerprint of God.

I decided to create a large banner, using paper collage, and began with a shape representing God’s fingerprint. Out of it flows an abstract design with hints of the earth, the sea and the sky, reflecting God’s fingerprints all over the earth. Bursts of orange and yellow echo the Trinity.

Working on the banner became my Lenten prayer practice, and as I cut and glued pieces day after day I held the congregations and people of Mennonite Church Canada in prayer.

While designed to be viewed from afar, a close up look reveals the foods and people and creatures that make up the image. Fingerprints from attendees will also be added to the banner to complete it.

Each of us have received a gift from God; may we use them to serve one another.
