Mennonite Church Canada encourages donations to Transmission film series

Films on Ethiopia and Indonesia are first two of five planned by 2025

Mennonite Church Canada is encouraging donations to the production of a film series about Anabaptists from around the world.

The Transmission film series, headed by European filmmaker and head of Swiss Mennonite Mission Max Wiedmar, will include five films by 2025, each centering around Anabaptist churches in different countries. The series is endorsed by Mennonite World Conference and features MWC-member churches.

Canadians can now donate to the Transmission film series directly through Mennonite Church Canada at www.mennonitechurch.ca/transmission-films.

“Not only is this series a celebration of our global family of faith, it also allows us as a Canadian church to look beyond our borders to see what God is doing in parts of the world we don’t often hear from,” says Jeanette Hanson, director of Mennonite Church Canada Witness.

Two 10-minute films are already produced and available for viewing. Transmission 2020 features MC Canada sister church Meserete Kristos Church in Ethiopia, detailing MKC’s history of persecution, its young leadership and spiritual maturity.

Transmission 2021 centres around the relationship between a Christian church and Muslim mosque in the remote village of Tempur in the mountains of Jepara in Indonesia. It also highlights relationships between Christians and Muslims in the Netherlands.

The films are produced by Affox, Wiedmar’s production company. Each film comes with its own study guide.

Hanson encourages congregations to use these films and their study guides in Sunday school or small groups.

“We need to hear these voices,” says Hanson.

Three more 10-minute films are planned for 2023-2025, as well as a 90-minute docu-drama for television, which will coincide with the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism in 2025.
