Wet’suwet’en Solidarity – Learning and Supporting Together

On November 18 and 19, Wet'suwet'en territory was once again violently raided by the RCMP. Over 30 land defenders were arrested for peacefully reoccupying their traditional, unceded lands and protecting their sacred headwaters from the Coastal GasLink pipeline project. Still, the Wet'suwet'en people are standing strong in the face of colonial violence. How can we as a Peace Church respond to their invitation to join in solidarity?

Join Esther Kern and David Janzen (Valleyview Mennonite Church, London, Ontario), and Allegra Friesen Epp (Home Street Mennonite Church, Winnipeg), who recently spent time in Wet'suwet'en territory. Hear stories from the frontlines and get updates about the current situation on the ground. The webinar will conclude with tangible ways to take action in solidarity with the Wet'suwet'en.

Meet the Speakers!

Esther Kern (front, middle) joined CPT in 2004.  She has served as a CPT reservist in Hebron-Palestine, Colombia, the U.S. Mexico Border, Northern Iraq, and Turtle Island.  Esther was an operating room nurse and nurse educator for many years.  She is a member at Valleyview Mennonite Church in London, ON. 

David Janzen (far right) joined CPT in 2002.  As a CPT reservist, he has worked primarily in Hebron-Palestine and more recently with CPT's Turtle Island Solidarity Network.  Most of David's career was in the travel insurance business.  He and his partner Gloria attend Valleyview Mennonite Church in London, ON.

Allegra Friesen Epp (back, right) is an intern with CPT's Turtle Island Solidarity Network and Mennonite Church Canada's Indigenous-Settler Relations Office.  She became involved with CPT in 2019 when she attended a learning delegation in Colombia.  Allegra is a recent graduate of Canadian Mennonite University.  She attends Home Street Mennonite Church in Winnipeg, MB.
